Knitting Marathon – How do you track your rows?

I am knocking off row upon row of sleeve! Knitting sleeves for me is worse than having to knit the second sock. So I have to come up with things to keep me engaged. Like checklists. I am a wicked list maker. So, when things need checking off, I’m your girl. This is what I use to keep track of my sleeve increases…

Now, back to sleeve knitting, so I can finish this arm by bedtime.

Knitting Marathon Day #1 is in the books

You know when you are supposed to be doing something, but your mind keeps going everywhere else? Ya, my mind went to Chocolate chip Cookies. And the big bag of new chocolate chips on my counter. And I already had made a gorgeous chicken for dinner

So I couldn’t waste an oven already preheated! Right?

They just happened, I mean, I was sitting knitting, and then all of a sudden the butter just started creaming itself! What’s a girl to do???

Well, at least I got some good knitting progress as well. I have finished the cuff and 8 sleeve increases on the first sleeve.

I have to say, I love this yarn. I was afraid I wouldn’t because it is not the usual yarn. It is Wool-Ease by Lions Brand. The only down side is that it rolls like a son of a gun. It is a little frustrating when trying to measure, or take pictures. (Speaking of which, my youngest says to me while I am photographing the chicken “Mom, why are you always taking pictures of our food?” Apparently she doesn’t read my blog.)

I am off, and I am probably done knitting for the night. I think I may spend some time crocheting – ya, I just said that! I finally learned! I can’t wait to show you guys the progress I have made on my basket!

Have a great night, and I will be back to marathon some more tomorrow.

Knit Marathon Update: Making soup is not knitting?

I have been a completely ADD knitter so far. But, I have accomplished quite a bit. As you saw earlier, I finished my 4 scarves which will be mailed out tomorrow to my sister for her family.

Sunday is church day for us, but one of my kids was sick, so she was brought to the clinic, and I stayed here with the other 2. While I knitted and attended church via the internet, the kids measured the snow for me and made a very cool fort

Knit Marathon – sort of…

Hey all – for those of you who have been with me for a while, you know that I have joined Cheryl over at Cheryl Marie Knits for several of her Knit Marathons. She is hosting one starting today. Normally I knit 26.2 hours over 2 days. It is a wonderful way to get some things accomplished with yarn! I am always amazed to see how much I can get accomplished when I sit and focus for an extended period of time.

This time I am going to do it a little differently. My hands and wrists are a bit sore, and I am afraid if I go straight through I will be forced to NOT KNIT *gasp* for a couple of weeks after I am done. Also, I have church today, and as a result of NEMO we have been cleaning the basement out (nothing major happened, we were just inside and it happened). So I have made a game time decision to knit the 26.2 hours over the next 3 days.

What you will see from me here are multiple posts during the days I am knitting, so you can see what all I am working on along with other regular blog posts.

*** as a side note, and completely unrelated, I finally figured out how to do that “page break” thingy – and will be inserting one of those “more” tags in my blogs from now on. When you click on the “more” button, it will take you to the remainder of my post. Here is my first official “more” button! Don’t forget to click it so you can see what I have already finished this morning***

Blizzard Prep, Knitter-Style

Here’s the thing, in New England when they are predicting a storm you can tell a lot about a person. Some go to the store and get water and dry goods in case they lose power. Some go to the store and get ice melt, shovels, beer, and a roast for the crockpot. Some do nothing.

Me? I make my kids bring in enough wood to heat the entire street for a week. Then I shop for some good food and munchies for the kids. Then, I make sure I have enough projects on hand to knit.

And then as if knitting weren’t enough, I have FINALLY learned to crochet, and am working on this project basket for my knitting things. It will be made in two colors – this eggplant will be the bottom and go a short way up the side. Then I will change over to a cream to finish up the sides.

To top things off… you know… just in case we get snowed in for a month (or my ADD gets the better of me, and I just HAVE to start a new project)… I have the yarn to start this fabulous afghan which will coordinate wonderfully with the wall hanging quilt I made last year.

For those of you who have been following along with my No-Spend Challenge, do not worry! My Mama got me this yarn! It is so perfect! I am so in love with the lime green.

So, yes, you can tell a lot about a person by what they do to prepare for a storm. What is on your must-have list?

To all of those in the path of the storm, stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy your days of winter white…

Week Two of New Beginnings

Today is the start of a brand new week! Which means time to reflect on last week, and set new goals for this week. I did pretty well last week. I made 2 healthy dinners, and tried out one new lunch recipe for the kids – Pictured below is the healthy version of the kids’ favorite Pizza Lunchable:

Pizza Lunchable

I used a Whole Grain Sandwich thin, which splits in half and make 2 full “pizzas”.  A baggy of shredded mozzarella, organic pizza sauce and pepperoni slices. To add a little something extra, I put in a pickle and for dessert, a fiber one granola bar. The kids loved them. And yes, they eat them cold.

Back to last weeks’ goals – I made it to the gym twice. I didn’t get very far sorting my knitting. My hubby was away, as were the kids, and with the empty house, I spent the last 4 days watching shows everyone else hates on Netflix while knitting and puttering around the house. I am really ok with that, as I made it a conscious choice, rather than just not getting to it.

I made great progress on 3 projects. These will be my main projects until they are finished.

1) My hunny’s Nordic-Style Sweater – I finished the last 17″ on the back, and have the front done all the way up to the split for the zipper. I also cast on and worked the ribbing for the sleeves while I was on the bike at the gym this morning.

2) The Un-Fat Sweater: You may remember this beauty from about a year ago. She is called the un-fat sweater because I bought her with Christmas money as a reward for working so hard on my weight loss and getting fit goals. I stopped working on it because I stopped working out. I am back on the fit-train now (as of last week), and so I am working on her again. She is made of the most delicious Malibrigo you have ever felt!

3) The Stellar Socks: Of course, I can’t go without a pair of socks to work on – being that this is the year of the socks for me. Kevin bought me sock yarn for Christmas. HE went to my local yarn shop and picked it out all by himself, with no prompting from me what so ever! I didn’t even ask for yarn! He picked out this perfect sock yarn, that as I knit becomes a perfect sock for wearing with jeans and by brown leather clogs. The man did good!

Alrighty – this week? My goals are:

  • Continue to make better food choices
  • Get to Storms Fitness (my local gym) 3-4 times this week.
  • Locate and pull out all of my yarn and yarn-related items
  • Keep blogging!

Dinner tonight is a Rotiserrie style chicken in the crock pot – It is a brand new recipe I found online. If it comes out yummy, I will share it with you.

New Beginnings

I started 2013 off with a BANG! I started a fabulous pair of socks on Christmas day, and finished then January 1! Please ignore my saggy kneecaps (seriously, when did THAT happen???)

Well, here we are. It’s the first week of the year… AGAIN. Funny how that just keeps happening.

Do you find yourself in the same boat as me? Every year I make these lofty resolutions, and every year I almost NEVER get started because  I never make myself a roadmap of how to achieve my resolutions.

So, here’s the thing. The reason we all love new years is the same reason we all start diets on a Monday. A fresh start. There has got to be some little mechanism in out brains that signals these types of dates as a place to put a refresh. Which, when you think about it, is pretty silly. We can start something any day of the week, any week of the year. We could even *gasp* start something new in the middle of the day. Just random!

This year I made a resolution to not make a resolution. I am going to make small goals each week in different important areas of my life. For example, every year I have resolved to get back into shape and lose weight. Whatever. What does that even mean? I mean, if I could do that so simply, I would have done it by now. So what I have finally decided is that I need to make smaller goals within my overall vision for what I want for myself in the future. Does that make sense? I also decided to make these goals weekly. That way, if I do something and it doesn’t work or doesn’t feel like it will move me in the direction I need to go to feel accomplished, I can change the goal next week. Or if I have  week (like this week) where everyone in the house has the flu (including this Mama), I can reduce the goal or just repeat it next week.

***** As a complete side note… Who the heck came up with the show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”??? Seriously! Did the producers just go out and say “Let’s pick a family that we can make fun of and then put it on tv???” OK… back to the blog******

All of this is not to say that I don’t have an overall goal for the year. I do. Well, I guess I don’t exactly have a quantifiable goal. I have a direction I want my life to be moving in. Right now, movement in the right direction is more important that a number on  scale or in the bank account.

OK, now that I have cleared up all that for y’all – here are my goals for this week (even though my week is almost over)

  • Gather and sort all of my knitting projects, yarn, patterns, needles nd supplies so that next week I can decide what I am truly going to make and what I can sell or give away
  • Get to my local gym 3 times (I have started working at our local gym in exchange for a membership)
  • Stop trying to figure out how to “catch up” on my blogging, and just come back and “start over”. Putting up at least 3 posts this week.
  • Make 2 healthy dinners and breakfasts this week, and try out 3 different bag lunches for the kids.

So there you have it. I am back. Did you miss me? I’ll be back tomorrow to share the other couple quick projects I have finished this week. (well, they are Christmas presents that I am only now finishing. Please tell me you do this, too!)
